Ideology

The article discusses how media is used by those in power to control ideology.

2) What view of capitalist ideology is presented in the Hunger Games films?

The view that the wealthy hold all the power in society and they control the dominant ideology.

3) What do the Hunger Games films suggest about the power of the media to shape and influence ideological beliefs?

It suggests that the media is used to form a dominant ideology or to distract people from what's really going on in the world.

4) What is YOUR opinion on this topic? Do you think the media shapes our values and beliefs?

I believe the media has a key role in shaping ideologies but I also believe in the two step model where our opinions are more so influenced by people than the media itself.

money=happiness, consumer goods=fulfilment, marriage/family/children = happiness, obedience/work = fulfilment 

2) What does Gramsci's theory of hegemony suggest about power and ideology in society?

Gramsci’s theory suggests that the dominant class uses the media to project their own views/ways of thinking to make the lower classes accept it as normal. 

3) What does French theorist Louis Althusser suggest about ideology and consumerism?

Their theory suggests that the elite class use the ideology that material goods=happiness in order to make more money by promoting consumerism. 

4) Do YOU agree with the idea behind They Live - that we are unthinkingly controlled by the media which is run in the interests of the economic elite? These are the big questions of A Level Media!
   
I agree with this idea, i believe the media has caused us to believe that consumerism is the way to happiness which is constantly promoted by the media and has been imbedded in the minds of people as common sense/normal.

The media is key in democracy as it is used to inform people and help them make decisions when voting. It’s also useful in exposing
